Discover the mountains and coastlines at the top of the South Island. Tour highlights include the unspoilt forests of Lewis Pass, the beaches of Abel Tasman National Park, the Marlborough wine country, and the marine life of Kaikoura.

Day 1 Christchurch to Abel Tasman region

Travel through the scenic mountainous Lewis Pass, where we will stop for a waterfall walk and a lagoon view. Continue north until we reach the beach resort of Kaiteriteri (subject to availability) where we will spend two nights. This the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park and its famous coastal walk and golden beaches.

Day 2 Free day

A chance to walk a day of the Abel Tasman walk or visit Golden Bay in which the Pupu Springs and the Wainui Falls walk are highlights. Your guide will help you decide which activity is best suited to you.

Day 3 Abel Tasman to Kaikoura

Drive through to Nelson where we shall stop before sampling some wines in New Zealand’s biggest and most renowned wine region. Continue down the east coast to Kaikoura where our accommodation is by the ocean.

Day 4 Kaikoura to Christchurch

In the morning you have the option of whale watching or walking the Peninsula walkway and maybe a sheep shearing demonstration. After lunch we shall visit a seal colony before heading back to Christchurch.

Combined South Island Tour

Combine the Northern Discovery and Southern Explorer tours for a great 11 day holiday in the South Island. Between the tours you'll have 3 days to relax and enjoy the sights of Christchurch.

Notes

Accommodation is selected for its location and/or facilities. All are unique and interesting. Couples will receive their own room. Singles will share rooms with their own gender. Singles who wish to have their own room may pay a surcharge of $90 for the whole trip.

All accommodation has cooking facilities and the tour will stop at supermarkets en route for those who wish to do their own cooking. The group will share facilities. Restaurants are available at all locations. Breakfast consists of a selection of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, toast and a selection of spreads. All hot and cold drinks covering the whole day are provided with snacks.

Payment is by credit card or cash. No deposit is required.

Your guide will also accompany you on activities in some locations. We also cater for any type of group with experience with families, mature citizens and backpackers of all nationalities.

Tours can be extended on request to include extra locations. This requires a booking of at least four people, and $150 per person for each extra day.
